Congress activity in 2015
In 2015, 1 004 congresses were recorded by the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau, which are 28 more than the previous year. In 2015, 761 congressists choose Paris to host their congress (an increase of 9,6% compared to 2014). This constant rise over the years underlines the dynamism and appeal of Paris for this sector. An estimated 1.19 billion euros of direct and indirect spin-offs from the congress sector were generated in 2015, which represents an increase of 7.5 % compared to 2014.
Charter for the hosting of major congresses
In order to attract major professional events and in particular congresses1, the Paris City Council, the Paris Île-de-France Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau, through its Convention Bureau and the tourism professionals that it brings together and UNIMEV have put in place a policy facilitating the organization of major events and increasing the attractiveness of the destination. This global strategy agreed on by all of the operators, above and beyond their respective strategies, has led to the elaboration of a charter for the hosting ofmajor congresses, signed by the 17 hotel groups representing more than 650 hotels all categories taken together (i.e. more than 75,000 guest rooms), the Paris City Council, the Paris Île-de-France Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau.
