PARIS sets a new attendance record for international congresses in 2017

The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), an international organization specializing in the association meetings industry, has just published its annual ranking of congress destinations that adhere to its three criteria: congresses must take place on a regular basis, have at least 50 participants, and rotate between a minimum of three countries.

In this ranking, Paris ties with Vienna for second place behind Barcelona. In 2017, the French capital played host to a total of 190 congresses that met with ICCA criteria and 112,000 delegates, compared to 196 congresses and 74,586 delegates in 2016.

The capital saw a sharp increase in the number of ICCA delegates, up by more than 50%. This variation is positive for the attractiveness of the destination and beneficial to Parisian professionals involved in the hosting of congresses (transport, accommodation, etc.). This significant rise translates into an average number of 590 delegates per congress, a rise of 55 %, compared to 380 in 2016.

Since 2010, Paris has consistently occupied first or second place in the ranking, which reflects its prominence in the international meetings industry.

These results demonstrate the success of the promotional activities undertaken by tourism industry professionals with the Convention Bureau of the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau.
