PARIS sets a new attendance record for international congresses in 2018

The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), an international organization specializing in the association meetings industry, has just published its annual ranking of congress destinations that adhere to its three criteria: congresses must take place on a regular basis, have at least 50 participants, and rotate between a minimum of three countries.

In this ranking, Paris ranks first, outpacing the second-place holder, Vienna. In 2018, the French capital played host to a total of 212 congresses (+11.6%) that met with ICCA criteria and 126,000 delegates (+5%), compared to 190 congresses and 120,000 delegates in 2017.

The capital saw an increase in the number of ICCA delegates. This variation is positive for the attractiveness of the destination and beneficial to Parisian professionals involved in the hosting of congresses (transport, accommodation, etc.). This rise translates into an average number of 594 delegates per congress, compared to 590 in 2017 (+0.7%).

Since 2010, Paris has consistently occupied first or second place in the ranking, which reflects its prominence in the international meetings industry.

These results demonstrate the success of the promotional activities undertaken by tourism industry professionals with the Convention Bureau of the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau.
