Going to see a play is a favourite outing for Parisians: one that international visitors too can now enjoy thanks to Theatre in Paris, which provides surtitles in English for some of the most popular French plays.
International visitors can now spend an evening indulging in a popular Parisian pastime: going to see a play. The surtitles provided by Theatre in Paris make performances of classic French plays, comedies and musicals accessible to all English speakers.
English translations are projected onto a screen above the stage, so that non-French-speaking members of the audience can understand the dialogues in real time.
The tailormade package, available for individual as well as group bookings, includes the seats with the best view of the surtitles, a personalized welcome at the door and a printed programme in English. Additional services are available on request: cocktails, dinner or a backstage visit.
The Theatre in Paris programme for the 2015-2016 season is as follows:
- Cyrano de Bergerac, Edmond Rostand’s classic play, at the Théâtre du Ranelagh, a listed theatre with ornate carved oak panelling.
- Le Tour du monde en 80 jours(Around the World in 80 Days) at the Théâtre du Splendid. This excitement-filled comedy has been playing to packed houses for the past 10 years.
- Le Mensonge(The Lie), the latest offering from the bestselling French writer Florian Zeller, in the historic Théâtre Édouard VII.
- Irma la douce, the internationally successful musical, at the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin.
Theatre in Paris is experimenting with new virtual reality technology to offer surtitles in several languages in the near future. Watch this space!
